Current crop of Suns will stick together says Caddy

FORMER Gold Coast midfielder Josh Caddy believes most of the current crop of Suns are likely to stay because of the exciting success there is to come at the club.

Caddy, who was selected by the Suns with pick seven in the 2010 draft, ironically came to Geelong during last year’s trade period via its compensation pick for losing Gary Ablett to the Gold Coast.

He cited that he desperately wanted to come back to Victoria to be closer to his family. Despite this, he believes leaving the Suns was a tough decision to make and didn’t expect any of his former team-mates to do the same thing – unless they’re “really homesick”.

“Obviously they’ve (Gold Coast) shown that they’re going to be a great side in the future,” Caddy said.

“They’re going to have a great run at the premiership in years to come and I knew that when I was leaving. We had a pretty tough year last year but at the same time, I knew what I was leaving. I knew we had blokes like Jaegar O’Meara and stuff like that coming through…unless they’re (players in the ilk of David Swallow and Dion Prestia) really homesick, I wouldn’t think they would move because they’ve got a lot to look forward to,” he said.

Caddy was brilliant in his second match in the VFL yesterday with 24 disposals in the Cats big win over Port Melbourne.

He expected to be in the mix to return to the AFL ranks against Fremantle next week.
